In his first game back from right knee surgery, A-Rod jammed his left thumb while making a backhanded grab of a ground ball by Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins. He missed two games, returned for three and then missed the following six with ensuing soreness. He then rejoined the lineup for seven games, but then sat the next six out before returning on Sept. 17.
